Director of Data and Technology

Salary Range: $220K/yr – $250K/yr
About the Role
We are seeking a Director of Data and Technology to lead the firm’s Information Technology (IT) function and serve as a strategic partner to the executive team. Reporting to the CEO, this individual will be responsible for establishing and executing a technology roadmap that aligns with business objectives, enhances operational efficiency, supports regulatory requirements, and positions the firm for long-term success.
The Director will oversee all aspects of technology strategy, operations, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and enterprise systems—while guiding the firm through modernization initiatives such as cloud adoption and the practical application of AI. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, desire to be hands-on, strategic insight, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence outcomes across the organization. A good candidate will be a self-starter.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Develop and execute a technology strategy aligned with firm-wide goals.
- Advise senior leadership on technology trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Maintain IT governance and policies that ensure operational resilience and regulatory compliance.
Technology Operations & Vendor Management
- Oversee and manage the firm’s Managed Service Provider (MSP) to ensure high‑quality delivery of infrastructure, support, and network operations.
- Ensure reliable infrastructure performance, system availability, and high-quality end-user support, and lead infrastructure modernization initiatives.
- Evaluate and manage technology vendor relationships, contracts, and SLAs.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Continually evolve the firm’s cybersecurity program, including threat assessments, incident response, user awareness training, and business continuity planning.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices for data protection.
Digital Transformation & Innovation
- Lead the firm’s digital transformation efforts, including cloud adoption, workflow automation, and the integration of practical AI solutions
- Drive initiatives that improve efficiency, data accessibility, and decision-making across the firm.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Systems Ownership & Enterprise Architecture
- Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of all critical investment and enterprise systems, including:
- OMS/EMS
- Portfolio and risk management systems
- Data warehouses and analytics platforms
- Client-facing and investor-reporting technology
- Ensure system reliability, scalability, data quality, and integration across platforms.
Financial & People Leadership
- Collaborate with the CFO to Develop and manage the IT budget, including forecasting, cost control, and resource allocation.
- Provide leadership and cross‑department collaboration to advance firmwide technology adoption and process improvement.
- Promote strong communication, training practices, and cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree or certifications (CISSP, CISM, PMP, ITIL) a plus.
- 7+ years of IT leadership experience, including senior management roles.
- Experience in financial services, asset management, or another regulated environment preferred.
- Proven ability to lead IT and data strategy.
- Experience managing relationships with MSPs and external technology vendors.
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments, and modern networking.
- Hands-on knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, risk management, and incident response.
- Exposure to AI/ML, workflow automation, enterprise data integration, and analytics tools.
Leadership & Management Skills
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language.
- Demonstrated experience influencing executive stakeholders and driving firm-wide change.
- Strong vendor management, negotiation, and contract oversight skills.

Assistant Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income
Overview
We are currently seeking an Assistant Portfolio Manager (APM) to work within our portfolio management group. The individual will be an integral part of a team supporting the investment process for numerous insurance clients. This full-time position is located in downtown Chicago with some flexibility to work remotely under company policy.
Job Summary
The APM will work with several Portfolio Managers and will be staffed on specific life, property & casualty and health insurance relationships. You will be involved in all aspects of the investment process and will play a crucial role in delivering on AAM’s commitment to excellent client service and strong investment performance. While the majority of your work will center around public investment-grade fixed income, you will also gain experience in other asset classes.
There are multiple facets to the role and a successful candidate will eagerly take on additional responsibilities. You will interact with trading, credit research, operations, settlement and investment accounting teams, along with external service providers and our clients on a daily basis. The APM is involved in many aspects of the investment process and is the go-to individual for coordinating inter-department procedures, troubleshooting and certain client inquiries. With experience, the role will broaden in responsibilities to include presenting to clients, supporting marketing efforts and participating in the investment decision process.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implement portfolio strategy under the direction of Portfolio Managers
- Work directly with AAM’s clients on multiple portfolio management teams, fielding inquiries and coordinating delivery of services and reporting
- Develop market-based knowledge with support from AAM investment professionals and participation in the investment process
- Aid in growing the firm by supporting AAM’s Sales and Marketing groups
- Prepare periodic client investment reports and support our accounting staff
- Monitor portfolio risk positioning, compliance and performance
- Learn about our clients, their products and the insurance industry
- Identify opportunities to assist with improving organizational efficiency alongside other APMs and investment professionals
- Actively seek additional roles/responsibilities to grow professionally
Primary Working Relationships
- Internally: portfolio managers, research analysts, traders, sector specialists, operational/investment accounting teams and administrative personnel
- Externally: clients, subadvisors, consultants, custodians and service providers
Candidate Requirements
- 1 to 3 years of accounting, finance, banking or investment experience
- College degree in finance, accounting, math, economics, computer science or a related field
- High level of proficiency in Excel
- Comfort with and ability to analyze large sets of data
- Intellectual curiosity and an ability to independently problem-solve
- Demonstrated interest in capital markets
- Willingness to step outside of set job responsibilities to help the team
- Comfortable interacting with clients and public speaking
- Desire to enroll in the CFA Program, with preference for having registered for, or passed, Level I exam
- Ability and willingness to reevaluate processes to introduce automation and improve efficiency
Pay
The annual salary range is $70,000 to a maximum of $90,000. AAM also provides a discretionary bonus program based on firm and employee performance.
