Director of Data and Technology

About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Data and Technology to lead the firm’s Information Technology (IT) function and serve as a strategic partner to the executive team. Reporting to the CEO, this individual will be responsible for establishing and executing a technology roadmap that aligns with business objectives, enhances operational efficiency, supports regulatory requirements, and positions the firm for long-term success.

The Director will oversee all aspects of technology strategy, operations, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and enterprise systems—while guiding the firm through modernization initiatives such as cloud adoption and the practical application of AI. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, desire to be hands-on, strategic insight, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence outcomes across the organization. A good candidate will be a self-starter.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and execute a technology strategy aligned with firm-wide goals.
  • Advise senior leadership on technology trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Maintain IT governance and policies that ensure operational resilience and regulatory compliance.

Technology Operations & Vendor Management

  • Oversee and manage the firm’s Managed Service Provider (MSP) to ensure high‑quality delivery of infrastructure, support, and network operations.
  • Ensure reliable infrastructure performance, system availability, and high-quality end-user support, and lead infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Evaluate and manage technology vendor relationships, contracts, and SLAs.

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

  • Continually evolve the firm’s cybersecurity program, including threat assessments, incident response, user awareness training, and business continuity planning.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices for data protection.

Digital Transformation & Innovation

  • Lead the firm’s digital transformation efforts, including cloud adoption, workflow automation, and the integration of practical AI solutions
  • Drive initiatives that improve efficiency, data accessibility, and decision-making across the firm.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Systems Ownership & Enterprise Architecture

  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of all critical investment and enterprise systems, including:
    • OMS/EMS
    • Portfolio and risk management systems
    • Data warehouses and analytics platforms
    • Client-facing and investor-reporting technology
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, data quality, and integration across platforms.

Financial & People Leadership

  • Collaborate with the CFO to Develop and manage the IT budget, including forecasting, cost control, and resource allocation.
  • Provide leadership and cross‑department collaboration to advance firmwide technology adoption and process improvement.
  • Promote strong communication, training practices, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree or certifications (CISSP, CISM, PMP, ITIL) a plus.
  • 7+ years of IT leadership experience, including senior management roles.
  • Experience in financial services, asset management, or another regulated environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead IT and data strategy.
  • Experience managing relationships with MSPs and external technology vendors.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments, and modern networking.
  • Hands-on knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, risk management, and incident response.
  • Exposure to AI/ML, workflow automation, enterprise data integration, and analytics tools.

Senior Investment Accountant

We are seeking a Senior Investment Accountant to join our investment accounting team and help deliver accurate, timely and complete reporting for a diverse group of insurance company clients. This role works closely with Clearwater Analytics and AAM’s operations and portfolio management groups, while offering meaningful exposure to insurance investment accounting, client service and the fixed-income markets. The position is located in downtown Chicago, with some flexibility to work remotely in accordance with company policy.

Job Summary

The Senior Investment Accountant will report to the Director of Investment Accounting and collaborate with portfolio management, operations, external service providers and clients to support the accuracy, completeness and timely delivery of investment reporting. The position provides an opportunity to deepen your expertise in the accounting and reporting of insurance-company investment portfolios while building trusted relationships across the firm and with clients.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting skills with sound judgment, clear communication and a service-oriented mindset. You should be comfortable investigating complex issues, working with large data sets and using advanced Excel capabilities to improve reporting quality and efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare, review and analyze monthly and quarterly client investment reports using Clearwater Analytics

• Validate the accuracy and completeness of investment data and ensure reporting conforms to applicable accounting and reporting standards

• Maintain current knowledge of accounting and reporting standards applicable to investment securities and insurance-company portfolios

• Respond to client inquiries and partner with portfolio management to address reporting needs clearly and promptly

• Research and resolve reporting exceptions, data discrepancies and other investment-accounting issues

• Coordinate with internal teams and external service providers to support an efficient and well-controlled reporting process

• Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, automate recurring tasks and improve the quality and efficiency of reporting

• Take ownership of assigned work and actively pursue additional responsibilities that support professional growth and team success

Primary Working Relationships

• Internally: investment accounting, portfolio management, operations, research, trade/settlement groups

• Externally: clients, Clearwater Analytics, custodians and other service providers

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0

• 5+ years of relevant accounting or finance experience involving fixed-income securities

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and reporting practices for investment securities, particularly bonds and other fixed-income instruments

• Advanced Excel skills, including experience with macros and VBA, and a demonstrated ability to work accurately with large data sets

• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills, with careful attention to detail

• Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and clients

• Experience with Clearwater Analytics and insurance investment accounting is preferred

Pay

The annual salary range is $90,000 to $150,000, based on experience and qualifications. AAM also provides a discretionary bonus program based on firm and employee performance.
